About Us

Filer Micro Welding was founded in 1995 by Gary Filer in Forest City, North Carolina. After almost 20 years of experience in the Tool & Die industry, Gary saw the need for a precision welding operation to help resolve sensitive and delicate repair issues in the industry. Through bold decisions and even bolder welding, Gary developed a small market into strong relationships with customers and superior service.

After years of proven skill and ability, with a growing customer base, we expanded to open our second location in Hendersonville, North Carolina in 2010. Managed by Vic Hutchinson – one of Filer Micro Welding’s strongest welders, who has been welding in the industry since 1992 – this shop has helped us innovate and adapt to difficult welding operations. More recently, with the need for more space and welding capabilities, we opened our newest location in Hickory, North Carolina under the supervision of Tool & Die maker, Keith Fox. Now our Hickory location is managed by Joshua Starnes, a very valuable team member.

While our combined past experience lends heavily to our expertise in welding for Tool & Die applications, we have worked hard to develop and innovate within other industries as well. We have provided services for Petroleum, Electrical, Automotive, Aerospace and Medical industries and are continually working towards expanding our abilities and operational capabilities.

Between the three welding shops we currently utilize seven operational Mirco Laser Welders, six TIG welders and a MIG welder. We have the ability to weld components as small as a pencil tip and as large as a 14,000 lb tool cavity in a broad range of materials from H-13 tool steel to Mold Max (Beryllium). Components with delicate or difficult areas – like diamond polishing or knife edges – are able to welded without issue.  See our Gallery for examples of our precision welding capabilities.

Recently we have partnered with Tri City Laser, a laser-cutting company, managed by Robin McNeely. Located in Spindale, North Carolina, Tri City Laser is in close proximity to our Headquarters. This gives us the ability to provide our customers with precision cut components from a trusted supplier. Tri City uses a 150 Watt CO2 Laser Cutter able to hold a +/- 0.004″ tolerance over the 50″ x 100″ table. See our Services for the large range of materials with which they are able to work . Our Gallery also has examples of laser cut components by Tri City Laser.
